Our rich Charism

Charism Charism is a gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church, communicated through a particular person who gathers    disciples around him or her and with whom he or she translates a bold vision into action. Charism is a living passion for whatever dimension of the life of Christ is missing now - peace, truth, mercy ... It is the heart of the founder/foundress that was aglow at one period of history, beating on in us in another day and age. It is ever-changing ... it is where the reign of God is needed most. It develops from age to age and dies from age to age ... and then grows up in a new way. Dominicans all over the world continue to draw upon the charism of St. Dominic in serving as preachers of the   Gospel. To be a Dominican is to be part of a family that includes cloistered nuns, ordained and non-ordained friars, religious sisters, and laity. Dominicans are formed throughout their entire lives according to the f...

Learning conversations at home

It is really important that you as parents are on board with your child's learning. There are many ways that you can do this, but one of the easiest is to have that learning conversation at home about what they have been doing at school. Don't settle when you ask 'How was school?' and get the reply OK or Alright. Make sure you ask further questions of your child. What did you learn today? What was one thing the teacher helped you with today? What do you think we can do tonight to help your learning? What did you find hard today? Who did you play with today? What were the cool things you did today?

Cultural responsiveness

Cultural Diversity....... What a wonderful moment it was when I was sent this group of lovely children to share their writing. While I was giving them their principal certificate and their stickers (it's all about the sticker!) it dawned on me that all 7 children were from different c. What a wonderful country and school it is, to be able to experience a range of different cultures and languages. The children at school experience through playing and learning together, that everyone is the same....everyone has something to offer and everyone has gifts. There is a great article currently circulating in the schools titled Becoming Culturally Responsive, and we as adults have much to learn in this area at times. They say children are 'colour-blind' and I have to say it is true. A playground is full of children playing, they don't see race or ethnic background...they just see a friend! Points from the article Celebrating diversity should be part of the school...

Lent here at school

Weetbix Tryathlon 2019

Great work St Dom's.....we now have 21 kids registered for the 9th of February 2020 Tryathalon at Pt England so far. Please spread the word within your school group networks & remember older siblings , other family members or friends are welcome to join our group. The more registrations we have in our group, the more chances we have of winning sports equipment for the school. Kids can do it individually or in groups of 2. Everyone gets a T shirt and a medal at the finish line. The St Dominic's tent will be up all day and we will have a BBQ at our site. It's a really great day. and the kids all love it. The 6 year olds can do a modified course this year (at Pt England).

2020 Theme for the year!

After much debate and sharing of ideas with the children this year, we have come up with the theme LEARN......SERVE......LEAD........SUCCEED This theme will follow on from our 2019 theme of Be your BEST and Let GOD do the Rest! We have had loads of fun with this theme and we will continue to use our school theme in 2020 to bring the school on board with its meaning. A theme ties the school together and lets children understand they are part of an overall idea or goal. Children get to remember them and can rattle off the meaning and why they need to be learning and playing hard each day in order to achieve the year's theme. LEARN - children understanding that they are active participates in the learning process. How do they learn and what do they need to do each day in order to learn as much as they can. In order to learn, we need our parents, our friends and our teachers. The relationship of child and teacher is a BIG aspect to this Aspect of our 2020 goal. SERVE- What...
