Putting the bikes together.

What a  fantastic evening it was and so many helpers turned out. It really was a team effort and we managed to put all the bikes together in record time. It shows that when school and community work alongside each other great things happen This is part of the lend a hand initiative that was launch this year 2020. Thanks everyone for your help!

Mary .....Pray for us

A wonderful staff focus for prayer that we will have on our return after Level 3 lockdown! Mother Mary ...Pray for us.

Teaching teachers to teach children to ride their bikes.

What a  great staff meeting it was to have all the staff on bikes and having a go. Role modeling to the children is so important and the learning that took place in this staff meeting was excellent. Loads of us just thought we would get children on bikes and away they go, however, we learned it is more than that and the games and fun you can have as a class of children on bikes is so good.  We look forward to getting all the children in every class on a  bike and enjoying our wonderful whole bike track!

Footsteps....shaking their thang!

For the last 3 weeks, Footsteps have been in at school teaching our Magnus and Aquinas teams a few dances. The children love this, especially the boys and it's great to see so many smiles on the children's faces. We hope to share what we have learned with the community once normality returns to our school after Level 3.

Parent workshops

We have recently held a workshop for parents based around MAths and Net Safe.  This was excellent as it was short and snappy! We are changing the face of MAths at St Dominic's and getting parents along for the ride is really important so they can support the changes we are making at school at home as well. https://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/topics/BES/developing-mathematical-inquiry-communities/04-mixed-ability-grouping

Cook Island week here at St Dominics

Where does learning happen?

We know it happens everywhere at school and for lads on a  hot sunny day, the sandpit is the place to be. Sharing, constructing, building and planning are all skills that are practiced here. Relating to others, Participating and contributing and Managing self are three of the 5 competencies we can see in the sandpit!

The Holy Spirit

This is such a wonderful lesson for the children and they love walking around school with their flames on. The Holy Spirit strand is a real special strand as it opens up all of the mystery and wonder that is our faith.

Cross Country 2020

On a sun-drenched winter’s day, the students of St Dominic’s Catholic Primary School perfectly personified its core values of Respect, Aroha, Perseverance and Unity at its annual cross country competition. The much-anticipated event, which had been postponed the previous week because of the stormy weather, proved a massive hit as the youngsters demonstrated great resolve to complete a range of energy-sapping distances across the various age groups. In the age 10 and 11 division, the students faced a fatigue-inducing 2.4km examination, climaxed by a gruelling climb up Bolton Street before re-entering school grounds to the finish by the soccer field. In the boys event, powerhouse cross country performer Geordie Springett lived up to his formidable reputation to sign off his St Dominic’s cross country career with a perfect six from six record.  Geordie held off a strong challenge from his fellow Kowhai house team-mate, Liam Bettelheim, to take top spot and celebrated by compl...

The GRAND bike opening

What a day this was and all the children had a wonderful time. We had speakers and music and even a teachers race on scooters. Making sure children are healthy and staying active is extremely important here at St Dominic's Catholic Primary School. Active Play
