Baptism here at school

Kia ora kotou everyone,
Last Friday was Sienna's special Baptism day and it was amazing. Sienna's family plus room 1, 8 and 10 came to attend the baptism. When we all came in Sienna was wearing a stunning dress with flowers all over it. Esther started us off with an opening prayer she read delightfully. Once Esther finished her prayer all the disciples came down the isle with one special item, you could see the excitement on Sienna's face. When Sienna got baptized her face light up, she is now an official a member of Gods church! Once she got baptized, she went down the isle and came back up in a beautiful white dress. After the baptism we sang some hymns and had eucharist, everyone sang incredibly by the way. After the mass we had some special baptism cupcakes.
A big thank you to Sienna's family for those incredible cupcakes, the disciples for helping with the mass and reading so wonderfully and of course Miss McHeyzer for organizing this special baptism. A big congratulations to Sienna for having her first sacrament done, baptism, we hope you had a wonderful time.  May God’s blessings be with you and your family always.
I hope you all spend some time to reflect on your own baptismal day and remember how special it was to be welcomed into our Catholic Family.

Teaching teachers to teach children to ride their bikes.

What a  great staff meeting it was to have all the staff on bikes and having a go. Role modeling to the children is so important and the learning that took place in this staff meeting was excellent. Loads of us just thought we would get children on bikes and away they go, however, we learned it is more than that and the games and fun you can have as a class of children on bikes is so good.  We look forward to getting all the children in every class on a  bike and enjoying our wonderful whole bike track!

Cultural responsiveness

Cultural Diversity....... What a wonderful moment it was when I was sent this group of lovely children to share their writing. While I was giving them their principal certificate and their stickers (it's all about the sticker!) it dawned on me that all 7 children were from different c. What a wonderful country and school it is, to be able to experience a range of different cultures and languages. The children at school experience through playing and learning together, that everyone is the same....everyone has something to offer and everyone has gifts. There is a great article currently circulating in the schools titled Becoming Culturally Responsive, and we as adults have much to learn in this area at times. They say children are 'colour-blind' and I have to say it is true. A playground is full of children playing, they don't see race or ethnic background...they just see a friend! Points from the article Celebrating diversity should be part of the school...
