Cross country here at school

I hope everyone had a great school holiday break and is ready to learn.

This year’s theme is- ‘Be your best and let God do the rest’. This means to me that I should strive to do my best in all my learning and in everything I do and leave the rest to God.

This week everyone was looking their best for school photos! Boys and girls were doing last minute comb overs, tucking in their shirt and checking their look in the mirror. What good smiles!

On Friday it was Cross Country. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and everyone was looking forward to it. All the kids ran their fastest and then received a medal saying, ‘Be your best’. What a fun but exhausting day.

It has been an exciting start to the term and I am really looking forward to the next few weeks.

Teaching teachers to teach children to ride their bikes.

What a  great staff meeting it was to have all the staff on bikes and having a go. Role modeling to the children is so important and the learning that took place in this staff meeting was excellent. Loads of us just thought we would get children on bikes and away they go, however, we learned it is more than that and the games and fun you can have as a class of children on bikes is so good.  We look forward to getting all the children in every class on a  bike and enjoying our wonderful whole bike track!

Cultural responsiveness

Cultural Diversity....... What a wonderful moment it was when I was sent this group of lovely children to share their writing. While I was giving them their principal certificate and their stickers (it's all about the sticker!) it dawned on me that all 7 children were from different c. What a wonderful country and school it is, to be able to experience a range of different cultures and languages. The children at school experience through playing and learning together, that everyone is the same....everyone has something to offer and everyone has gifts. There is a great article currently circulating in the schools titled Becoming Culturally Responsive, and we as adults have much to learn in this area at times. They say children are 'colour-blind' and I have to say it is true. A playground is full of children playing, they don't see race or ethnic background...they just see a friend! Points from the article Celebrating diversity should be part of the school...
